Narendra Modi arrived in Tiruchirappalli on Wednesday evening wearing traditional Tamil attire, including a white dhoti (veshti) and shirt, garnering attention from supporters and officials during his visit. Earlier, he had attended a government programme in Kerala before flying to Tamil Nadu.
Landing at Tiruchirappalli International Airport around 4:45 p.m., the Prime Minister traveled by Indian Air Force helicopter to Panchapur, where a major government function was organised. At the event, he inaugurated, laid foundation stones, and flagged off development projects worth approximately Rs 5,650 crore, undertaken by public sector organisations such as Indian Oil Corporation, National Highways Authority of India, and Indian Railways.
Key initiatives include the foundation stone for a city gas distribution network project by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in the Nilgiris and Erode districts, with an investment of Rs 3,680 crore to expand access to piped natural gas. Additionally, the Prime Minister dedicated a lubricant oil manufacturing plant at Manali, Chennai, by Indian Oil Corporation at a cost of Rs 1,490 crore.

The event also saw the inauguration of 89 rural roads, totalling 370 kilometres, under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, and the foundation stone for a greenfield bypass near Gangaikonda Cholapuram on National Highway 81. PM Modi also flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two express trains, and one passenger train service, enhancing railway connectivity in Tamil Nadu. He later addressed a public meeting organised by the National Democratic Alliance.
His choice of traditional Tamil attire continues a pattern of respecting local culture during state visits, reinforcing a connection with Tamil heritage and public sentiment.
