Veteran revolutionary singer P.K. Medini, whose voice has been associated with Kerala’s Left movement for decades, has named her new home ‘Red Salute’. The 95-year-old communist singer has chosen the title of an album of revolutionary songs closely associated with her as the name of her residence. The home is located at Thottakam near Vaikom, a place with historical significance for Kerala’s communist movement.

Medini’s association with revolutionary music began when she was just 13 years old. Over the decades, her songs became closely identified with Left political platforms across Kerala, earning her a distinctive place in the State’s cultural and political history. Her performances carried revolutionary themes and became part of the musical tradition associated with the communist movement in Kerala.

The name ‘Red Salute’ has a particular connection to Medini’s musical journey. The album of revolutionary songs bearing the same name became synonymous with the veteran singer and her distinctive contribution to political music. By giving her residence the same name, Medini has carried a significant part of her artistic identity into her personal space.
