Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would secure a sweeping victory in Tamil Nadu, stating that voters would “teach a lesson” to Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and his party. His remarks came on the final day of campaigning in the state, as political parties intensified their outreach ahead of the close of electioneering.
Speaking to reporters, Goyal accused the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leadership of hurting Tamil sentiments. He referred to statements made by Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sanatan Dharma, arguing that such remarks had offended cultural and religious values in the state. Goyal further alleged that the DMK government had failed to protect Tamil heritage and had created “false narratives” that he claimed undermined public trust.
The Union Minister also criticized the DMK and its ally, the Congress, over issues related to reservation and governance. He described Stalin as “anti-Tamil” and accused the ruling alliance of depriving women of opportunities. Goyal asserted that there was a growing wave in favour of the NDA and predicted that Edappadi K. Palaniswami would emerge as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu if the alliance succeeds.

Referring to broader regional politics, Goyal cited comments by N. Chandrababu Naidu to argue that the interests of southern and northeastern states had been neglected. He maintained that the current Tamil Nadu government had failed to deliver equitable development and opportunities across regions and communities.
Tuesday marked the last day of campaigning in Tamil Nadu, with the Election Commission mandating that all electioneering activities cease after 6 p.m. Political parties ramped up their final efforts across districts, with leaders addressing rallies and meeting voters in a push to consolidate support before polling.
The campaign period saw sharp exchanges between rival parties. While Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and their allies accused the DMK of poor governance and promoting dynastic politics, opposition voices offered a contrasting view. Arvind Kejriwal praised the DMK’s governance, while the Congress alleged misuse of central agencies against its state leadership. The contest has highlighted deep political divisions, setting the stage for a closely watched electoral outcome.
