Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly and CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan has called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into alleged financial irregularities linked to donations collected for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The demand comes amid reports of an ongoing probe into alleged misuse of public contributions meant for the temple project.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Vijayan described the allegations of financial misconduct as “extremely serious” and said they raised troubling questions about the handling of donations made by devotees. He alleged that public faith and religious sentiments had been misused for political and financial gain, and called for full transparency in the management of the funds.
Vijayan further alleged that individuals associated with organisations linked to the Sangh Parivar were connected to the temple trust and were accountable for explaining how the donations collected from millions of devotees had been utilised. He stressed that the public has a right to know the details of expenditure related to the temple construction project.

The Opposition leader also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond to the allegations, noting his participation in the Ram Temple consecration ceremony. He said the trust, constituted through an official government notification, had come under public suspicion, making an independent and credible inquiry necessary.
Calling for accountability, Vijayan stated that only a Supreme Court-monitored investigation could ensure impartiality and restore public confidence in the management of temple funds. He added that such a probe would help establish facts, fix responsibility, and address concerns raised by donors who contributed to the project.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is already probing the matter, and eight people have been arrested in connection with the alleged irregularities. The case has added a new political dimension to the debate over the administration and transparency of large-scale religious donation drives in the country.
