A passenger caused a major security scare at Chennai International Airport after allegedly jumping out of an Air Arabia aircraft while it was taxiing after landing. The incident took place shortly after the flight arrived from an international destination and was moving on the runway toward its designated parking bay.
According to preliminary reports from airport officials, the passenger unexpectedly opened an aircraft exit while the plane was still in motion during taxiing and jumped onto the runway. The act triggered immediate alarm among the cabin crew and ground control authorities, who quickly alerted airport security and halted further movement of the aircraft.
The flight, operated by Air Arabia, had completed its landing procedure normally before the disruption occurred. Taxiing is a standard post-landing phase where aircraft move slowly on designated airport pathways before reaching the terminal. Officials said the sudden breach of protocol created a potentially dangerous situation on the active runway.

Airport security personnel and ground response teams were immediately deployed to the scene. The passenger was swiftly apprehended on the airport premises shortly after the incident. Authorities confirmed that he was taken into custody for questioning, and an investigation has been launched to understand the motive and circumstances behind the act.
The aircraft was temporarily held in position while security teams ensured that the runway was safe and no further risk remained. Other passengers on board were reported to be safe, and no injuries were reported among the crew or airport staff. However, the incident caused brief operational disruption, with minor delays affecting aircraft movement at the airport.
Officials stated that standard aviation safety procedures were activated, including runway inspection and coordination between air traffic control and ground handling teams. Normal operations resumed after the situation was brought under control and the area was declared secure.
Initial assessments are focusing on how the passenger was able to access and open the exit during a critical phase of flight operations. Aviation rules generally prohibit any attempt to open aircraft doors while the plane is on the ground and moving, as it poses severe safety risks due to proximity to runways, ground vehicles, and other aircraft activity.
Authorities are also reviewing whether any lapse occurred in cabin monitoring or passenger management during the landing and taxiing process. Airline representatives are expected to cooperate with regulatory agencies as part of the ongoing investigation.
While such incidents are rare, aviation experts note that they highlight the importance of strict adherence to onboard safety protocols and passenger compliance during all phases of flight, including post-landing procedures. Further details, including the passenger’s identity, motive, and legal status, are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
Airport officials have reiterated that passenger and operational safety remains the highest priority and that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
