The Centre convened an all-party meeting on Sunday ahead of the Parliament Monsoon Session, set to begin July 21, with the government seeking cooperation for smooth proceedings. However, the opposition INDIA bloc is poised to raise critical issues, including the government’s failure to bring justice to the perpetrators of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, and US President Donald Trump’s claims of brokering an India-Pakistan ceasefire during Operation Sindoor.

The meeting, chaired by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and attended by Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal, saw participation from Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Jairam Ramesh, NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule, DMK’s T R Baalu, and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, among others. The INDIA bloc, comprising 24 parties, plans to corner the government on eight key issues, including alleged voter suppression through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, which they claim threatens voting rights and resembles a “backdoor NRC.”

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari called the Pahalgam attack an “intelligence failure” and demanded Prime Minister Modi address Trump’s repeated ceasefire claims, which the opposition views as undermining India’s sovereignty. The bloc also plans to highlight foreign policy failures, the Gaza crisis, and rising atrocities against marginalized communities.
