In a significant counter-terrorism breakthrough, security forces neutralised two Pakistani terrorists belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The operation, codenamed Operation Kiya, culminated in the destruction of a cave hideout in the remote Basantgarh area. Officials confirmed that all forces involved emerged unharmed.

The slain terrorists included senior JeM commander Rubani alias Abu Mavia, who had been active in the region for several years. Army personnel launched a precise assault on the cave, triggering powerful explosions that destroyed the hideout. One terrorist was found dead at the cave entrance, while the other was located deeper inside the cave.

The operation was initiated following specific intelligence provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police about terrorist movement in the Jophar Forest area. A joint force comprising the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, Counter-Intelligence Force Delta, CRPF, and local police cordoned off the area and began a meticulous search. Sniffer dogs equipped with cameras and aerial drones were deployed to track the terrorists’ movements.

Intermittent firing continued through the night as security forces prevented the terrorists from escaping. Heavy gunfire and explosions were reported when the terrorists attempted to flee under the cover of darkness. Reinforcements, including paratroopers and specialised dog squads, were rushed to tighten the security perimeter before the final assault at dawn.

Rocket-propelled grenades were fired at the cave entrance, killing both terrorists and ending the operation. A large cache of arms and ammunition, including an M4 carbine and an AK assault rifle, was recovered from the site. The Army highlighted the operation as an example of seamless inter-agency coordination, tactical precision, and high professional standards.

Officials said the terrorists were planning to establish a base and stock supplies in the forested region, posing a serious threat to local security. Their elimination has brought relief to residents and marks a major success ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir. The area remains under surveillance as forces continue anti-terror operations across the region.
