The National Testing Agency (NTA) has initiated a major recruitment drive as part of a comprehensive overhaul aimed at strengthening India's competitive examination system. The agency, which conducts key entrance examinations including NEET, JEE and CUET, announced openings for several senior leadership positions under its "Build New NTA" initiative. The recruitment follows the government's decision to implement wide-ranging reforms after concerns over examination integrity and paper leak controversies.

In a post on LinkedIn, the NTA said it is undergoing the most extensive institutional strengthening in its history based on the recommendations of the High-Level Committee of Experts (HLCE) chaired by Prof. K. Radhakrishnan. The agency stated that it is rebuilding its systems across academic standards, technology, security, operations and governance to enhance the credibility and reliability of examinations conducted for millions of candidates across the country.

The recruitment includes four senior leadership positions: General Manager (Assessment – Research & Development and Psychometrics), General Manager (Test Centre Network and Operations), Chief Information Security Officer, and General Manager (Vigilance, Investigation and Forensics). According to the NTA, these roles are expected to play a crucial part in improving examination processes, strengthening security mechanisms and ensuring greater transparency in the country's testing framework.

In addition to senior appointments, the agency has invited applications from young professionals, particularly candidates who have appeared for the Civil Services Examination. The openings include 12 positions in academic research, two in legal research and two in finance and accounts research. Interested candidates have been asked to submit their applications directly to the NTA as part of its broader effort to bring fresh expertise into the organisation.

The recruitment drive forms part of the Centre's larger strategy to reform the conduct of competitive entrance examinations, particularly for engineering, medical and university admissions. The NTA is responsible for conducting major national examinations such as the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and Common University Entrance Test (CUET), making it one of the country's most important testing agencies.

The institutional revamp comes in the wake of widespread protests demanding accountability over alleged paper leaks and examination irregularities. Alongside restructuring the NTA, the Centre has announced several measures to improve examination security, including the introduction of an anti-paper leak law and the establishment of a fast-track court to handle such cases. The government has also constituted a high-powered task force led by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to recommend further reforms aimed at enhancing the reliability and integrity of India's examination system.
