A notorious criminal, Ajay Nutt, wanted in 25 cases and carrying a Rs 25,000 bounty, was injured in a dramatic police encounter in Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Saturday morning. Recently arrested in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Nutt attempted a bold escape while being transported to Jignadhala in a police vehicle.
Concealing a pistol in his clothes, Nutt opened fire on the escorting officers, prompting controlled retaliatory firing from the police. “He was shot in the leg and immediately overpowered,” said SP Avdhesh Dixit. Nutt is now stable and receiving treatment at a government hospital.
The police have launched a manhunt for his associates, intensifying efforts to dismantle his criminal network. The incident highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in handling high-risk criminals in Bihar.
