A massive fire broke out at a five-storey residential building in Mamura village, Noida, on Wednesday, triggering a major rescue operation in which more than 100 occupants were safely evacuated. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Phase 3 police station area, where police and fire department teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the blaze. Two people who suffered critical injuries and health complications during the incident are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to officials, the fire originated from an electric scooter that was charging in the parking area of the residential building. The blaze quickly spread to nearby areas, generating thick smoke that entered the upper floors and rooms, creating panic among residents. Firefighters faced challenges due to the heavy smoke but managed to control the situation after carrying out an extensive evacuation operation and ensuring that trapped occupants were brought to safety.
DCP (Central) Shailendra Kumar Singh said emergency teams responded immediately after receiving information about the fire. A large number of police personnel and fire tenders were deployed to the location to assist in rescue efforts. He said that more than 100 residents were successfully evacuated from the smoke-filled building, while two individuals who fell ill during the operation were shifted to a hospital through ambulances for medical care.

Officials said the dense smoke made the rescue operation difficult, but timely action by emergency personnel helped prevent further casualties. The condition of the two injured individuals is being monitored, and further details regarding their health are awaited. Authorities have also begun an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fire and assess whether safety measures were properly followed at the building.
Following the incident, police registered a case against the leaseholder and operator of the building under relevant legal provisions, citing alleged negligence. Both individuals have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are examining the building’s safety arrangements and other factors that may have contributed to the spread of the fire.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over fire safety standards in residential buildings, particularly in densely populated areas where electrical equipment and charging facilities require proper monitoring. Officials are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available about the cause of the fire and the condition of those affected.
