Fresh political speculation has emerged within the Karnataka Congress after posters reading “Next CM DKS” appeared in parts of Bengaluru ahead of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s birthday, reigniting discussions about a possible leadership change in the state.
The posters, reportedly put up by supporters of Shivakumar, have brought renewed attention to the ongoing leadership debate within the ruling Congress party in Karnataka. The visuals have triggered fresh political chatter at a time when the government is nearing the midpoint of its five-year term, with questions being raised about a potential reshuffle or transition in leadership.
The speculation also stems from earlier discussions about an informal power-sharing arrangement between Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah when the Congress formed the government in 2023. Although no official agreement has been publicly confirmed, the issue has continued to surface periodically, particularly during key political milestones or public events.

Supporters of Shivakumar, including some party legislators and workers, have increasingly voiced their backing for him as a potential future Chief Minister. At the same time, a section within the party continues to support Siddaramaiah’s continuation, reflecting a visible factional divide within the Karnataka Congress unit.
Shivakumar has previously attempted to downplay such speculation, stating that any decision regarding leadership rests entirely with the Congress high command. He has expressed confidence that the party leadership will take a decision at the appropriate time, in line with organisational processes and political considerations.
Senior Congress leaders, including K. C. Venugopal, are reportedly monitoring the situation closely as the party works to maintain internal unity amid growing public and political chatter over leadership in Karnataka.
