In a landmark event, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu released Krishna river water into the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) canal from pumping station-1 in Nandyal district on Thursday. After the release, Naidu performed traditional prayers and offered garments to the canal waters, marking a ceremonial start, an official statement said.
This significant step completes the Rs 696-crore phase-I of the HNSS canal project, with the canal’s enhanced capacity now at 3,850 cusecs due to recent widening efforts. The state is investing Rs 3,890 crore across phases I and II to address the irrigation and drinking water demands of the drought-hit Rayalaseema region, promising a brighter future for its residents.
