A five-member Myanmar Army delegation, led by Lieutenant General Ko Ko Oo, Commander of the Bureau of Special Operations 1 (BSO-1), held discussions with Lieutenant General R. C. Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of India’s Eastern Command, at its headquarters in Kolkata. The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral defence ties between India and Myanmar, focusing on enhancing military cooperation and technological exchange.
During the interaction, the Indian Army presented the Myanmar delegation with advanced IT laboratory equipment to bolster digital training capabilities and improve information management systems. This gesture underscores India’s commitment to supporting Myanmar in modernising its defence infrastructure, fostering technology-driven collaboration. The equipment is expected to enhance the Myanmar Army’s operational efficiency through improved digital training programmes.
The visit occurs amid Myanmar’s ongoing governance by a military junta, which has faced international scrutiny since the 2021 coup. India, maintaining a policy of constructive engagement with Myanmar, seeks to balance regional security interests and diplomatic relations, given the two nations share a 1,643-km border. Such interactions are part of broader efforts to deepen defence cooperation, including joint exercises and capacity-building initiatives.

Further exchanges are anticipated to build on this foundation of mutual cooperation.
