Mumbai Police will deploy over 17,600 personnel to ensure safety and order during the 10-day Ganesh festival, starting August 27, 2025, and concluding with idol immersions on September 6. The elaborate security plan, announced by Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satya Narayan on Monday, aims to manage the massive crowds expected at public Ganesh pandals and immersion sites across the city.
The deployment includes 15,000 constables, 2,600 sub-inspectors and inspectors, 51 assistant commissioners, and 36 deputy commissioners of police. Specialized units such as 12 companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Quick Response Teams (QRTs), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), dog squads, and a horse-mounted unit will bolster security. Over 11,000 CCTV cameras and drones will monitor key areas, including high-traffic pandals like Lalbaugcha Raja, which attracts millions of devotees annually.
“We have taken comprehensive security and crowd control measures,” Narayan said, emphasizing coordination with Ganesh mandal organizers over the past few days to ensure peaceful celebrations. Dedicated arrangements are in place for Lalbaugcha Raja, with additional focus on immersion sites like Girgaon Chowpatty, Juhu, and Dadar beaches. Watchtowers, public announcement systems, beat marshals, and plainclothes officers will be deployed to prevent incidents.
