In a chilling act of domestic violence, a 38-year-old unemployed Mumbai resident, Hanumant Sonawale, allegedly slit the throat of his 14-year-old daughter while she slept in their Kandivali home on Wednesday morning. Police reports state that Sonawale, heavily intoxicated, had engaged in a heated argument with his wife Rajshree over persistent suspicions of her infidelity shortly before the attack. The incident escalated when he armed himself with a blade and entered his daughter’s room.
The teenager awoke to excruciating pain as the blade sliced across her neck, prompting screams that brought her mother rushing to the scene. Upon intervening, Rajshree was stabbed in the abdomen. Both victims were immediately rushed to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where the minor received five stitches to close the deep neck wound. Medical authorities confirmed that mother and daughter are now stable but remain under close observation.
Investigations have revealed a pattern of chronic alcoholism, unemployment, and repeated physical abuse by Sonawale, who had grown increasingly paranoid about his wife’s alleged extramarital affair. The situation reportedly worsened after Rajshree recently consulted a lawyer and initiated divorce proceedings. Sonawale has been arrested and booked under sections for attempt to murder and domestic violence, with police citing extreme mental distress and substance abuse as contributing factors.

In an unrelated but equally disturbing case reported from Mumbai this week, a 51-year-old businesswoman filed a complaint alleging that Joy John Pascal Post, Managing Director of Franco-Indian Pharmaceuticals, and five accomplices held her at gunpoint, forced her to strip, and recorded compromising photographs and videos. The woman was lured to the company’s office under the pretext of a business meeting before being subjected to the ordeal and subsequent blackmail threats.
Authorities have registered a case against Post and the named individuals on charges including criminal intimidation, sexual harassment, and extortion. As Mumbai reels from back-to-back incidents exposing extreme brutality against women, law enforcement faces mounting pressure to expedite investigations and ensure stringent action against the perpetrators.
