A 28-year-old man died and a woman was hospitalized after reportedly consuming excessive amounts of alcohol during a music concert in Mumbai’s Worli area late Saturday night. The incident occurred during the ‘Klangkuenstler All Night Long’ event held at the NSCI Dome, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death and the conduct of the event. Authorities have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and begun questioning organizers and other individuals connected to the program.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Vrishabh Gangurde, a resident of Mahim. Gangurde and a female companion reportedly attended the concert and were said to be heavily intoxicated while inside the packed venue. Both began feeling unwell during the event and were rushed for medical treatment. Gangurde was declared dead on arrival at Breach Candy Hospital, while the woman was admitted to Jaslok Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
Investigators said the woman informed police that she had consumed only alcohol and energy drinks during the event. At present, officials have not found evidence suggesting the involvement of narcotic substances and have ruled out a drug angle for now. However, police are examining CCTV footage from the venue and reviewing other digital evidence as part of the ongoing probe into the circumstances that led to Gangurde’s death.

Preliminary findings indicate that a heart attack may have caused the death, though officials are awaiting post-mortem and forensic reports before drawing any conclusions. The case has attracted significant attention because it comes just weeks after two MBA students allegedly died from a drug overdose at a concert held at the NESCO Centre in Goregaon, raising fresh concerns about safety measures at large entertainment events in Mumbai.
Sources familiar with the investigation said local police had initially expressed reservations about granting permission for the Worli concert due to concerns over crowd management, security arrangements, and lessons from the earlier Goregaon tragedy. Despite those objections, the event eventually received clearance from senior authorities. Officials are now scrutinizing licenses related to alcohol service and other permissions issued for the program.
Police said at least eight individuals, including event organizers, are being questioned. Investigators are also examining financial records to determine whether any illegal black-marketing of tickets took place. In addition, authorities are looking into allegations that a secret rave party may have been planned under the cover of the music event and are assessing the role of private security personnel, venue ventilation systems, and overall crowd capacity management as part of the wider investigation.
