Assam police have seized illegal morphine valued at a staggering Rs 11 crore in the Karbi Anglong district, sending shockwaves through the region. The operation unfolded late Tuesday night, August 26, 2025, during a routine patrol along the Assam-Nagaland inter-state boundary near the 6 Mile area of Dilai. Officers intercepted a suspicious truck and, upon a thorough search, uncovered 10.71 kg of morphine cleverly hidden behind the driver’s seat, marking one of the largest drug busts in the area this year.
Two individuals inside the vehicle, believed to be key players in the drug supply chain, were promptly arrested. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the narcotics and dismantle the network behind this illicit trade. The seizure underscores the ongoing challenge of drug trafficking along India’s northeastern borders, where porous routes often facilitate such activities.
Legal proceedings against the detained suspects are underway, with police vowing to leave no stone unturned in their crackdown. This incident has reignited calls for enhanced border security and stricter monitoring to curb the influx of dangerous substances into the state. Local residents have expressed relief at the police action, hoping it will deter future smuggling attempts in the region.
