Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted the government's focus on strengthening religious and spiritual tourism during his visit to the Dwarkadhish Temple on Thursday. Yadav, accompanied by his wife Seema Yadav and family members, offered prayers and performed rituals at the temple ahead of Janmashtami. He also prayed for the happiness, prosperity and well-being of the people of Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking to reporters after the temple visit, Yadav highlighted the development of pilgrimage destinations across the country and pointed to Ujjain as an example of the growth in religious tourism. He noted that projects such as Shri Mahakal Lok had contributed to a significant increase in the number of devotees visiting the city. According to Yadav, more than 10 crore pilgrims currently visit Ujjain.

Yadav also referred to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor in Varanasi as another example of infrastructure development giving fresh impetus to religious tourism. He noted that pilgrimage destinations were receiving greater attention through improvements aimed at accommodating increasing numbers of devotees. The Chief Minister linked such developments to the broader potential of religious tourism to support local economies.

During his remarks, Yadav described the Dwarkadhish Temple as an important pilgrimage centre associated with the Char Dham tradition established by Adi Shankaracharya. He also referred to his recent visit to Somnath Dham and described the opportunity to offer prayers at Dwarka shortly before Janmashtami as a privilege. His visit came as preparations for the festival continued at major religious destinations.

The Madhya Pradesh government is focusing on improving facilities at major religious sites, with attention to connectivity, accommodation and safety for pilgrims. Yadav maintained that better management systems and infrastructure at holy sites can help create a more convenient experience for visitors while supporting tourism-related economic activity in surrounding areas.

Yadav's Dwarka visit also placed Madhya Pradesh's religious tourism initiatives within a wider national trend of investment in pilgrimage infrastructure. The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of developing facilities at religious destinations while preserving their spiritual significance. Secretary to the Chief Minister Ilaiyaraaja T. and other family members accompanied him during the visit.
