Meta Platforms has launched a new standalone application called Seller for Facebook Marketplace users, aiming to make it easier for sellers to manage listings, communicate with buyers, and handle sales activities. The new app is currently available to Facebook users aged above 18 in the United States and is designed as a dedicated platform for people who frequently use Marketplace for selling products.
Facebook Marketplace, which was launched about a decade ago, has become one of the platform’s widely used features, allowing users to buy and sell a range of items including furniture, clothing, vehicles, and other second-hand goods. With the introduction of Seller, Meta is looking to provide more specialised tools for active sellers while improving their overall experience outside the main Facebook application.
The Seller app will allow users to manage their product listings, interact with potential buyers, and monitor sales through a separate interface. Meta’s move follows its broader strategy of creating specialised standalone applications for specific user communities. Earlier, the company introduced Forum, an app focused on Facebook Groups users, as part of efforts to develop dedicated experiences for highly engaged audiences.
Tom Alison, head of Facebook, said the Seller app is intended to support Marketplace sellers in a way similar to professional tools provided to content creators. He described the launch as an early-stage experiment that will complement rather than replace the existing Facebook app, allowing Meta to test new ways of improving user engagement.
The introduction of Seller comes as Meta continues efforts to maintain Facebook’s relevance amid increasing competition from other social media platforms. The company has also been heavily investing in artificial intelligence technology, while its advertising businesses on Facebook and Instagram remain its primary sources of revenue.
Meta’s expansion into specialised apps reflects its attempt to strengthen user communities and create more focused digital experiences. While the company continues to prioritise AI development, initiatives such as Seller show its efforts to enhance existing platforms and improve services for different categories of users.
