A court in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district has extended the judicial custody of three hitmen accused of brutally murdering Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in the Sohra region in May. The trio, identified as Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi, all from Madhya Pradesh, appeared via video conferencing from Shillong district jail on Thursday.
Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda confirmed, “The court extended their judicial custody by 14 days.”
Raja Raghuvanshi, a 29-year-old businessman, married Sonam on May 11 and vanished on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. His mutilated body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills. Authorities allege that Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover, Raj Kushwaha, orchestrated the murder, with the three hitmen executing the attack using machetes.

Sonam and Kushwaha are also currently in judicial custody, facing charges of planning the chilling crime. Additionally, three other individuals from Indore—a property dealer, a flat owner, and a security guard—have been arrested for obstructing justice and tampering with evidence at a flat where Sonam and Kushwaha sought refuge post-murder.
The Meghalaya Police’s Special Investigation Team continues to probe the case, which has sparked widespread attention and prompted stricter safety measures for tourists in the region.
