The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday that it is closely monitoring the ongoing conflict in West Asia and maintaining active communication with Iran to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in the region. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that officials are in touch with Iranian authorities and tracking developments affecting the Indian community in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
“Our External Affairs Minister has been talking with his Iranian counterpart, and three conversations have happened in recent days. As far as the impact of the war, it is there for everybody to see what's happening around. Several of our lives have been impacted by it, not just ours, but of people and countries around the world,” Jaiswal said.
He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has engaged with several leaders in the Gulf region since the conflict began, emphasizing the need for dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace and prevent civilian casualties. “We have a large Indian community in the GCC countries, and their security and welfare are of utmost importance. This was highlighted,” Jaiswal said, noting that India has also condemned violations of sovereignty and territorial integrity in affected states.

The MEA official further pointed out the regional repercussions of the conflict, including disruptions in LPG supplies that have impacted India and neighboring countries. He emphasized that the Indian government is closely monitoring energy and logistics developments to mitigate shortages.
Meanwhile, efforts to repatriate Indian citizens from the Gulf have continued successfully. On Wednesday, over 500 stranded Indians returned safely to India, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding its nationals amid regional instability.
India’s diplomatic engagement and active monitoring reflect its dual approach of protecting its citizens abroad while supporting regional stability through dialogue, coordination, and cooperation with relevant governments in West Asia.
