West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of exerting direct control over the Election Commission of India (ECI) during a Trinamool Congress meeting of Booth Level Agents at Netaji Indoor Stadium. She described Shah as an autocratic figure who influences the Prime Minister and warned of severe consequences if such forces continue to dominate national politics ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Banerjee alleged that the ECI, acting under BJP directives, is conducting flawed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to unlawfully remove lakhs of eligible Bengali voters. She claimed central officers deployed as micro-observers lack knowledge of local languages, rendering them unsuitable for verification processes, and accused Shah of orchestrating efforts to delete up to 1.5 crore names from the state's voter lists.
Highlighting specific instances, the Trinamool supremo pointed to deletions in her Bhawanipore constituency and Chowringhee seat, questioning whether such actions could sway electoral outcomes against her party. She reiterated threats of an indefinite dharna if even one legitimate voter is excluded, while asserting that TMC would overcome these challenges and eventually challenge the Centre's authority after retaining power in Bengal.

Instructing party workers to remain vigilant, Banerjee directed Booth Level Agents to conduct door-to-door checks on draft rolls, verify unmapped voters, and assist affected individuals in submitting Form VI and Annexure IV for reinstatement. She urged grassroots mobilization to counter alleged manipulations during the revision exercise.
The rally saw attendance from several ministers and legislators, though notably absent was Abhishek Banerjee, the party's national general secretary. Mamata's intensified rhetoric, including dramatic comparisons of Shah to mythological antagonists, underscores escalating tensions between the state government and the Centre over electoral integrity.
