Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), backed by the Adani Group, has achieved a significant milestone by crossing the 1-lakh passenger mark within just 19 days of commencing commercial flight operations. The airport, which began handling passenger flights on December 25, 2025, has already demonstrated strong demand and steady growth in regional air travel.
As of January 12, 2026, NMIA reported a total of 109,917 passengers, including 55,934 arrivals and 53,983 departures. January 10 was the airport’s busiest day so far, with 7,345 passengers arriving and departing on that single day, reflecting high passenger traction in the initial weeks of operation.
The airport has also been efficiently handling cargo, having processed 22.21 tonnes since the start of commercial operations. Additionally, 734 air traffic movements were recorded between December 25 and January 12, including 32 general aviation flights, highlighting the airport’s operational capacity.

Baggage handling has been smooth, with a total of 40,260 arriving bags and 38,774 departing bags processed during the first 19 days. The airport’s modern infrastructure and operational efficiency have contributed to a seamless experience for both passengers and airlines.
NMIA has been designed with an initial capacity to cater to 20 million passengers annually, with plans to scale further as demand grows. Officials say the early passenger numbers indicate strong regional adoption and confidence in the airport as a new hub for air travel in Maharashtra.
The milestone underscores the success of the airport’s launch phase and its potential to ease traffic at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. With growing flight connectivity and rising passenger confidence, NMIA is poised to become a major gateway for domestic and international travel in the region.
