Veteran Tamil film producer AVM Saravanan passed away in the early hours of Thursday, December 5, 2025, at the age of 86 due to age-related ailments, marking the end of an illustrious era in Indian cinema. Having celebrated his birthday just a day earlier, Saravanan’s demise has cast a profound shadow over the Tamil film fraternity, with tributes pouring in for the man who steered the legendary AVM Productions banner for decades.
Saravanan’s mortal remains have been kept for public homage until 3:30 p.m. on the third floor of the iconic AVM Studios in Chennai. Numerous production houses cancelled scheduled events as a mark of respect, reflecting the immense reverence commanded by the producer widely regarded as a visionary and mentor who shaped multiple generations of Tamil cinema.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin led the condolences, describing Saravanan as one of the greatest personalities of the industry and the face of the historic AVM banner. In an emotional message, Stalin highlighted how Saravanan elevated his father A V Meiyappan’s legacy while steering the studio through landmark films that intertwined with the Dravidian movement, including Parasakthi scripted by M Karunanidhi and Kuladeivam penned by Murasoli Maran.

With Saravanan’s departure, the industry loses its last direct link to the pioneering vision of “Appachi” A V Meiyappan.
