Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the National Assembly of Seychelles during his official visit, called for stronger global climate justice, stressing that countries with the least contribution to global warming should not bear the heaviest consequences of the climate crisis. His remarks came as India and Seychelles deepened cooperation across climate, maritime, and development sectors.
During the visit, Modi was conferred Seychelles’ highest civilian honour for foreign dignitaries, the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon,” in recognition of his leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development. He dedicated the award to countries that are most vulnerable to climate change, reaffirming India’s commitment to global environmental cooperation and sustainable growth.
In his address, Modi emphasized that climate action must be guided by fairness, shared responsibility, and collective effort among nations. He highlighted that rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and ecological disruptions disproportionately affect small island nations like Seychelles, despite their minimal contribution to global emissions.

The Prime Minister also underlined the need for greater support to developing economies in the form of climate finance, technology transfer, and access to sustainable energy solutions. He reiterated that India continues to position itself as a “trusted partner” for Seychelles in advancing renewable energy initiatives, environmental protection, and climate resilience efforts.
Modi further called for enhanced cooperation among Global South countries to jointly address climate-related challenges and ensure equitable development. He said India and Seychelles would continue to expand collaboration in key areas including renewable energy, maritime security, healthcare, education, and sustainable development partnerships.
The visit also reinforced growing strategic ties between the two nations, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to long-term cooperation in addressing shared global challenges, particularly those related to climate change and ocean governance.
