Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge publicly reprimanded party workers during the 'Sankalpa Samavesha' programme in Bengaluru, Karnataka, after repeated slogans in support of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar disrupted the event. The incident occurred while Kharge was addressing party members, with sections of the crowd repeatedly chanting "DK-DK," prompting the veteran leader to pause his speech and express his displeasure over the interruptions.
A visibly annoyed Kharge reminded workers that the gathering had been organised as a Congress party programme and not as an event dedicated to any single leader. Stressing the importance of collective leadership and party unity, he said that individual personalities should not overshadow the organisation. His remarks reflected concerns about maintaining discipline and ensuring that party events remain focused on broader political objectives rather than personal endorsements.
During his address, Kharge strongly criticised those raising slogans and questioned whether such behaviour served any meaningful purpose. He pointed out that many leaders and workers had gathered for the programme and that constant interruptions prevented others from participating properly. The Congress chief also underscored the importance of respecting the event's agenda and allowing proceedings to continue without disruption.

Drawing on his decades-long political career, Kharge reminded attendees that the Congress party had played a significant role in shaping the careers of many leaders. He stated that while individual leaders may contribute to the organisation, it is ultimately the party that provides a platform for political growth and public service. His comments appeared aimed at reinforcing the message that loyalty to the party should take precedence over support for individual leaders.
Kharge also warned that disciplinary action could be taken against those responsible for the disruption. He informed party workers that video footage from the event would be reviewed and that appropriate action would follow if instances of indiscipline were identified. The warning highlighted the leadership's intention to enforce organisational discipline and prevent similar incidents at future party programmes.
The episode comes at a time when the Congress leadership is focused on strengthening unity within the party ahead of key political challenges. While the slogans reflected support for Shivakumar among a section of workers, Kharge's response underscored the leadership's emphasis on collective functioning and organisational discipline. The incident has drawn attention within Karnataka's political circles, with observers viewing it as a reminder of the Congress high command's insistence on party-first politics.
