Iran has expressed formal gratitude to India for its participation in the state funeral of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, describing the gesture as an important demonstration of mutual respect and longstanding civilisational ties between the two countries. The appreciation was conveyed through a detailed statement posted on social media platform X by the Iranian Embassy, which highlighted India’s presence at the high-level ceremony as a sign of continued goodwill despite broader regional tensions.
In its message, the Iranian Embassy said the participation of Indian representatives reflected a “powerful expression of mutual respect” and underscored what it described as the deep historical, cultural and diplomatic relationship shared between India and Iran. The embassy added that the Islamic Republic would “never forget” the gesture of friendship and compassion extended by India during a moment of national mourning, calling it a reflection of solidarity at an important time for the Iranian state.
The state funeral was held in Tehran following the death of Ayatollah Khamenei in February, which came amid reported US-Israeli strikes that escalated tensions in the region. The ceremony was attended by a high-level Indian delegation that included Bihar Governor and retired Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita.
