A Bangladeshi national allegedly found working without valid travel or residency documents has been arrested in Kerala’s Ernakulam district during a targeted operation by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The accused, identified as Mohammad Rathon Islam, was taken into custody from a plywood factory located in Vandamattam in the Kuruppampady area, where he had reportedly been employed for the past month.
According to police officials, the arrest followed intelligence inputs indicating the presence of a foreign national staying and working in the region without proper documentation. Acting on location-based surveillance and verification efforts, ATS personnel conducted a search operation at the plywood unit and detained the individual for questioning before formally arresting him.
Authorities said identity documents issued in Bangladesh were recovered from the accused during the operation. These documents are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation to determine the nature of his entry into India and whether any local networks facilitated his employment and stay in the area.

Following the arrest, the accused was handed over to the local police for further legal procedures and detailed interrogation. Officials noted that he will be processed under applicable immigration and foreign nationals regulations while verification of his background and travel history is underway.
Law enforcement agencies in the region have previously carried out similar crackdowns in parts of Perumbavoor and Kuruppampady, where several foreign nationals, including Bangladeshi workers without valid documents, were detained from plywood factories. These operations are part of ongoing efforts to monitor undocumented migration and ensure compliance with labour and immigration laws.
Authorities have stated that further investigation is in progress to determine whether the accused was part of a wider network or had received assistance in securing employment. They added that checks across industrial units in the region may continue as part of enhanced surveillance measures.
