A 34-year-old software engineer from Kerala, Benyam Nazar, was arrested at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on November 29 for allegedly sexually harassing a female cabin crew member aboard an Air India flight from Dubai to Hyderabad. The incident reportedly occurred on November 28 while the plane was in flight, raising serious concerns about passenger behavior and crew safety during commercial flights.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, Nazar appeared intoxicated and behaved inappropriately throughout the journey. He allegedly physically touched the cabin crew member, an action she initially dismissed as accidental contact. However, events after landing escalated the situation when Nazar claimed to have left his passport on board and asked the crew member to check the cabin.
When the air hostess returned to the flight to search for the passport, she discovered obscene scribbling on a tissue paper left on his seat, heightening suspicions about his conduct. Finding no passport but clear evidence of inappropriate behavior, she immediately lodged a formal complaint with airport authorities.

The Hyderabad airport police acted swiftly, arresting Nazar and charging him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to sexual harassment and assault. Nazar, who had been employed in Saudi Arabia, is now in judicial custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
This disturbing incident highlights ongoing challenges faced by airline staff in maintaining their safety against unruly passengers. Authorities stress the importance of strict enforcement and vigilance to protect crew members who serve in demanding conditions at 30,000 feet.
