Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26 in New Delhi, marking his first official engagement with the Prime Minister since assuming office. The meeting is being viewed as a significant political interaction between the newly elected state leadership and the Union government, coming just days after Satheesan took charge as Chief Minister.
The Kerala Chief Minister arrived in Delhi on Friday for a series of high-level discussions with senior Congress leaders before briefly returning to Kochi later in the day. He is expected to fly back to the national capital ahead of his scheduled meeting with PM Modi, which is likely to focus on key administrative and developmental priorities for Kerala.
Although no official agenda has been released, sources indicate that discussions are expected to centre on central assistance to the state, ongoing development projects, and issues requiring coordination between the state and Union governments. The meeting is also expected to set the tone for Centre–state relations under the new Kerala administration.

Ahead of the meeting with the Prime Minister, Satheesan held a series of consultations with top Congress leadership in Delhi. He met Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and later senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. During these interactions, he reportedly expressed gratitude to the party high command for its support during the recent Assembly elections and discussed organisational and strategic matters.
The Chief Minister’s visit to Delhi has drawn attention within political circles, particularly as it marks his first major national-level engagement after leading the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to a decisive victory in the Kerala Assembly elections. The UDF secured 102 seats, while the ruling Left alliance was reduced to 35 seats, and the BJP opened its account with three seats, signalling a notable shift in the state’s political landscape.
Satheesan, along with 20 Cabinet colleagues, was sworn in on May 18. His early interactions with both the Congress leadership and the Prime Minister are being closely watched, as they are expected to influence the administrative priorities and Centre–state coordination framework of the new Kerala government in its initial phase.
