The Karnataka government has initiated a statewide verification drive to probe reports of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly obtaining Aadhaar cards and other Indian identity documents illegally. Home Minister G Parameshwara said the process is already underway and assured strict action wherever violations of law are established.
Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said he has directed senior police officials, including the Director General of Police and city police commissioners, to compile comprehensive data on the presence of Bangladeshi nationals in the state. The focus, he said, is on identifying illegal entrants who have managed to secure local identity documents to reside in Karnataka.
The minister’s remarks came in the wake of the recent arrest of two Bangladeshi nationals who were allegedly found in possession of Aadhaar cards. He stated that some such individuals have already been deported and that the government will continue deportations after due verification. “We will verify and take action accordingly,” he said.

Parameshwara pointed out that many illegal immigrants reportedly choose Bengaluru due to its peaceful environment. He revealed that Bangladeshi nationals were earlier identified working in coffee estates in Sakaleshpur and were subsequently deported. Similar inputs have been received about their presence in areas such as Anekal and neighbouring regions, which are currently under verification.
On the issue of border infiltration, the Home Minister said securing national borders falls under the Centre’s jurisdiction. He noted that porous borders and alleged bribery enable illegal entry, adding that agencies such as the Border Security Force and the military are responsible for preventing such incursions.
The minister also issued a stern warning against any individual or group attempting to take the law into their own hands. While citizens may share information with the police, Parameshwara said vigilantism, harassment, or manhandling of suspected individuals would invite strict legal action. He added that the government would soon release official data on the number of deportations carried out.
