Comedian Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe in Surrey, British Columbia, has triumphantly reopened its doors just over a week after a brazen shooting on July 9, 2025. The attack, which saw at least nine bullets fired at the cafe’s windows, was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, a Khalistani terrorist linked to the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and listed among India’s most-wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Despite the violence, no injuries were reported, and the cafe is now welcoming patrons again with renewed resolve.

Kapil Sharma reshared a heartfelt message from the cafe’s official Instagram, announcing, “We’ve missed you and are truly grateful for your continued love and support. With heartfelt thanks, we’re opening our doors again – ready to welcome you back with warmth, comfort, and care. See you soon.” The cafe, co-owned with his wife Ginni Chatrath, had only recently celebrated its soft launch before the attack disrupted its early days.

The incident, which occurred at 1:50 a.m. local time, left bullet holes in the cafe’s windows and sparked widespread concern. The cafe’s team responded with a powerful Instagram statement: “We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up.” They emphasized their commitment to standing firm against violence, thanking the community and Surrey Police for their support.

Authorities are investigating potential motives, including possible connections to extortion rackets targeting Indian-origin businesses or retaliation for remarks allegedly made by Sharma about Nihang Sikhs on his show, which Laddi cited as provocation. The Surrey Police Service’s Frontline Investigative Support Team is probing the incident, reviewing CCTV footage and witness accounts, but no arrests have been made yet.
