As the Kanwar Yatra kicks off on July 11, Uttar Pradesh has rolled out an unprecedented security fortress to protect millions of Lord Shiva devotees. With over 50,000 security personnel, 29,454 CCTV cameras, and 395 cutting-edge drones, the state is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage.
High-Tech Surveillance Takes Center Stage
The Uttar Pradesh Police have deployed a staggering array of technology, including 395 drones—some tethered for continuous aerial coverage and others equipped with anti-drone tech to neutralize threats. These drones beam real-time footage to a state-of-the-art control room at the DGP headquarters, modeled after the Mahakumbh security setup. Operating 24/7, this hub monitors Kanwar routes and key Shiv temples across the state, ensuring swift responses to any incidents.
A network of 29,454 CCTV cameras blankets major routes and congregation points, providing round-the-clock surveillance. To combat misinformation, an eight-member social media team is on high alert, tracking and neutralizing rumors or sensitive posts, while another dedicated unit monitors inputs from UP-112 emergency services and electronic media.

Massive Security Deployment
The state has mobilized a formidable force of 587 gazetted officers, 2,040 inspectors, 13,520 sub-inspectors, and 39,965 constables, alongside 1,486 women sub-inspectors and 8,541 women constables. Reinforcing this are 50 companies of the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) and central forces, plus 1,424 home guards, ensuring a robust security blanket.
Interstate Coordination
To streamline crowd management and route updates, a WhatsApp group connects officials from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan, enabling real-time coordination for a smooth pilgrimage.
Ensuring Pilgrim Safety
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for any disruptions, with strict measures to maintain the sanctity of the Yatra. From food quality checks at dhabas to clear signage and traffic diversions, every detail has been meticulously planned to honor the Kanwariyas’ sacred journey.
With this high-tech, high-manpower security grid, Uttar Pradesh is setting a new benchmark for pilgrimage safety. The Kanwar Yatra, running through July 23, promises to be a secure and spiritual experience for millions.
