A murder in Maharashtra's Thane district came to light after a landlord received a voice message from his tenant allegedly confessing to the crime and informing him that a body was lying inside the bathroom of a locked apartment. Police said the incident occurred in Neelkanth Society in Kalyan, where residents had been reporting water leaking from the flat into the common passage for nearly two and a half months.
According to police, the apartment owner, Ajay Patil, had made repeated attempts to contact the tenants after receiving complaints from residents about the continuous water seepage but received no response. The situation took a dramatic turn when the female tenant allegedly sent him a voice message claiming that she had killed her lover, concealed the body inside the bathroom and asked the landlord to dispose of it.
After hearing the message, the landlord immediately approached the Manpada Police Station and informed the authorities. Police officers reached the apartment, forced entry into the locked flat and conducted a search. During the inspection, they recovered a body stuffed inside a sack in the bathroom. Preliminary findings indicate that the victim sustained fatal head injuries caused by a sharp weapon.

Investigators believe the bathroom tap had been deliberately left running after the alleged murder to wash away bloodstains and destroy forensic evidence. Police suspect the continuous flow of water caused the seepage that residents had been noticing for several weeks, ultimately drawing attention to the otherwise locked apartment.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. Police said the woman allegedly fled to Kolkata after the incident, and three special teams have been dispatched to trace and apprehend her. Efforts are also underway to verify her movements and establish the sequence of events leading to the crime.
Officials said the motive behind the alleged murder has not yet been established, and investigators are examining all possible angles, including the relationship between the victim and the accused. Police are collecting forensic evidence, recording witness statements and awaiting the post-mortem report as the investigation into the case continues.
