Mystery surrounds the death of retired British officer Ajay Kumar Sharma, who was found dead on Monday in Room No. 103 of a hotel in the Jakkanpur area of Patna, where he had been staying since January 18. Sharma, a former electricity department officer in England, had come to India after retirement and had been residing alone in the hotel for the past nine days.
Hotel staff reported that Sharma had been quiet and mostly stayed inside his room. On Sunday, he returned around 4:28 PM, requesting only fruits instead of a full meal. Later in the evening, he called the reception for Wi-Fi issues, after which no further communication was received from him. Staff grew concerned the next morning when he did not respond to repeated knocks or phone calls.
At around 3 PM, Jakkanpur police were informed, and a team led by Sadar ASP Abhinav opened the room, discovering Sharma dead. The police immediately began a formal investigation, including questioning hotel staff, reviewing CCTV footage, and checking entry-exit registers to piece together the timeline of events leading to his death.

Investigators found both Indian currency and British pounds inside a suitcase in Sharma’s room, along with family-related documents. Patna police contacted his family using these documents to inform them about the incident. The deceased’s movements and activities prior to his death remain unclear, fueling suspicion regarding the circumstances of his death.
Jakkanpur police station SHO Rituraj confirmed that the case is being investigated from all angles. “The family has been informed, and the body has been sent for post mortem. The exact cause of death will only be known after the report comes. Every possibility is being examined,” he said, underlining the seriousness of the probe.
Authorities are keeping a close watch on all details, including Sharma’s interactions in the city and hotel records, to determine whether the death was natural, accidental, or otherwise. The investigation continues as police await the post mortem report for a conclusive cause of death.
