Former US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden has shared a personal update on the health of former President Joe Biden, revealing that the 83-year-old will live with stage four prostate cancer for the rest of his life. Despite the diagnosis, she said Biden continues to maintain a busy schedule, although he has noticeably slowed down and now faces the challenges that come with long-term treatment and ageing.
Speaking with political commentator and "The View" co-host Ana Navarro for her new book, "View From the East Wing: A Memoir," Jill Biden reflected on the period leading up to her husband's diagnosis. She recalled that while Biden was still serving in the White House and had access to a full team of medical professionals, he frequently woke up multiple times during the night to use the bathroom, a symptom she assumed would be addressed by his healthcare providers.
According to Jill Biden, the issue persisted even after the couple left the White House in 2025. Concerned by the ongoing symptoms, she urged her husband to consult a urologist. During the appointment, doctors detected an abnormality that required further examination, prompting Biden to undergo a CAT scan and additional medical testing.

“I never imagined it would be prostate cancer. I just never imagined it,” Jill Biden said while discussing the diagnosis. Her remarks offered a glimpse into the shock experienced by the family as they learned that the former president was dealing with an advanced form of the disease.
Jill Biden also spoke about the realities of caring for a loved one with a serious illness, describing the experience as emotionally and physically demanding. She acknowledged that Biden remains active and engaged in public life but said his pace has slowed compared with previous years. The former first lady noted that adapting to the role of caregiver has been a significant part of their lives since the diagnosis.
Prostate cancer is among the most common cancers affecting men, and advanced-stage cases often require long-term treatment and monitoring rather than a definitive cure. While Joe Biden's diagnosis means he will continue living with the disease, Jill Biden's update suggested that the former president remains committed to staying active and maintaining his daily routine as he manages his health condition.
