Iran has warned that Israel could attempt to disrupt ongoing diplomatic discussions between Tehran and Washington, even as negotiations continue over a possible memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States. The remarks come amid continued indirect engagement on key geopolitical and nuclear-related issues, according to statements reported by Al Jazeera.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that while progress has been made on several areas of discussion with the US, it does not indicate that an agreement is close to being finalised. He stressed that reaching understandings on certain topics should not be interpreted as an imminent signing of a deal.
Baghaei noted that if a memorandum of understanding is eventually concluded, more detailed negotiations would follow over a defined period, including issues related to Iran’s nuclear programme. He indicated that such a follow-up phase could extend for around 60 days, during which technical and political aspects would be further addressed. He also cautioned that external actors, particularly Israel, could attempt to interfere with the diplomatic process. According to his remarks, Israel has an interest in undermining any progress between Tehran and Washington and may take steps aimed at complicating or derailing the negotiations.
The spokesperson referred to recent interactions between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggesting that such engagements could influence the broader diplomatic environment and shape the positions of US policymakers. Baghaei further stated that Iran has no guarantees regarding US commitments under any future agreement and indicated that Tehran remains cautious about potential breaches. He also suggested that mediation efforts involving countries such as Pakistan have contributed to facilitating dialogue in recent weeks, though he clarified that there are no immediate plans for official visits linked to these mediations.

In his remarks, the spokesperson also linked the negotiations to broader regional issues, including efforts to address ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. He said that discussions have touched upon ending hostilities in certain areas, while reiterating that Iran’s primary focus remains the protection of its national interests.
Baghaei concluded by stating that Iran would respond to perceived threats where necessary, describing the country as firmly committed to defending its position in the face of external pressure. The comments reflect continuing tensions in the region even as diplomatic channels remain open between Tehran and Washington.
