Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in Geneva on Monday for technical discussions ahead of scheduled indirect nuclear talks with the United States. The meeting took place at Araghchi’s residence in the Swiss city, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The talks focused on technical aspects of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA under Tehran’s nuclear safeguards obligations. Discussions also addressed a June 2025 law passed by the Iranian parliament, which suspended certain bilateral collaborations with the agency, the statement said.
Araghchi and Grossi exchanged detailed technical viewpoints in preparation for the upcoming indirect talks with the US delegation, emphasizing compliance and safeguards issues. Grossi described the discussions as “in-depth technical discussions” in preparation for Tuesday’s “important” negotiations.

Accompanying Araghchi were Iranian nuclear experts who provided technical support during the meeting. The Iranian Foreign Minister also scheduled talks with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi to coordinate regional diplomatic efforts ahead of the US-led discussions.
The indirect negotiations with the US are set to be led by President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. The Geneva talks follow an initial round in Muscat, Oman, on February 6, which aimed to establish a framework for future negotiations and address compliance concerns.
Araghchi emphasized that Iran seeks a “fair and equitable deal” and will not yield to external pressure or threats. Both sides are expected to finalize technical understandings in Geneva, which will form the basis for the upcoming nuclear dialogue with the United States.
