Madhya Pradesh has cemented its status as a cleanliness trailblazer in the Swachh Survekshan 2024, with Indore clinching the top spot as the cleanest city in the 'Super Swachh League' category for the eighth consecutive year, and Bhopal securing second place among cities with over 10 lakh population. The results, announced on Thursday, were celebrated by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, currently on a tour in Spain.
Yadav, in a post on X, hailed Indore’s achievement, honored by President Droupadi Murmu, as a "matter of great pride" for the state. He also lauded Bhopal, Dewas, Shahganj, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Budhni for their awards, declaring Madhya Pradesh a "pioneer in cleanliness." He extended gratitude to citizens, sanitation workers, and officials for their collective efforts.
Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava credited the city’s "habit and discipline" for the feat, urging residents to honor sanitation workers and maintain cleanliness. MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari praised Indore’s "tradition of respect" through public awareness and congratulated Ujjain and Budhni for their Super Swachh City League accolades.

Bhopal’s second-place ranking in the 'Swachh Shahar' category, behind Ahmedabad, was celebrated by MP Minister Vishwas Sarang, who called it a "new record" that strengthens Bhopal’s identity as a clean, smart city. The survey, engaging 14 crore people across 4,500 cities via face-to-face interactions, the Swachhata App, and social media, awarded 78 honors across four categories, including Ganga Towns and SafaiMitra Suraksha.
President Murmu presented the awards in New Delhi, attended by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, marking a milestone for Madhya Pradesh’s cleanliness drive.
