Singapore High Commissioner Simon Wong became the latest high-profile victim of IndiGo’s week-long flight cancellation crisis, missing the wedding of a High Commission staffer in Jharkhand’s Deoghar after his scheduled flight from Delhi was scrapped. In a post on X, Wong shared a poignant photo of himself dressed in traditional Indian sherwani and safa, attending the ceremony virtually from home.
“I joined the tens of thousands of passengers stranded by #Indigo. My flight to #Deoghar has been cancelled. My sincere apologies to my young staff waiting for me to attend his #shaadi. Lost for words,” he wrote, tagging the airline and highlighting the scale of disruption that has now affected diplomats, celebrities, and ordinary travellers alike.
Wong’s flight was among the hundreds cancelled on Friday as IndiGo continued grappling with crew shortages triggered by stricter duty-time regulations. The airline has admitted to over 1,000 cancellations since the crisis began, with the government easing some rules temporarily while demanding swift normalisation.

The diplomat’s light-hearted yet sympathetic post quickly went viral, with many praising his grace and traditional attire despite the disappointment. “Sir, you still made it in spirit—and in style,” one user commented, while others tagged IndiGo demanding accountability.
From international envoys to Bollywood stars, the IndiGo meltdown has spared no one, turning what should have been a joyous weekend of weddings and travel into a nationwide ordeal.
