Indian airlines are set to increase international flight operations in July and August as global aviation conditions improve, with easing tensions in West Asia and gradual lifting of airspace restrictions supporting a recovery in overseas capacity, according to data from global aviation intelligence firm OAG. Industry data shows that international operations had been affected in recent months due to high aviation turbine fuel costs and multiple airspace disruptions. In June, major Indian carriers including Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, and SpiceJet operated a combined 14,473 international departures. However, airlines are now preparing for a gradual recovery in outbound capacity over the next two months.
OAG projections indicate that international departures will rise by around 8% in July to approximately 15,633 flights, followed by a further 9.1% increase in August, reaching about 17,048 flights. The data reflects a broad-based expansion in overseas operations as demand and operational conditions improve across key international routes.
Among individual carriers, Air India is expected to maintain relatively stable operations, with a slight decline from 3,629 international departures in June to 3,620 in July, before rising to 3,683 in August. In contrast, Air India Express is projected to see a strong rebound, with departures rising from 2,689 in June to 3,617 in July, a 34.5% month-on-month jump, and further increasing to 4,213 in August.

IndiGo, which remains one of the largest international operators among Indian carriers, is also expected to expand capacity modestly. The airline operated 7,837 international flights in June and is projected to increase this to 7,925 in July and 8,381 in August. Meanwhile, SpiceJet is expected to record the sharpest percentage growth, with international departures rising from 318 in June to 471 in July and further to 771 in August.
Aviation experts note that geopolitical developments remain a key factor in network recovery, particularly the status of regional airspace. Industry analysts point out that reopening of Pakistan airspace could significantly improve connectivity to Europe and reduce operational constraints for Indian carriers. However, they also caution that code-sharing arrangements and route adjustments must be carefully assessed to understand the true scale of capacity expansion.
