Leaders of the INDIA opposition alliance on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining unity and coordinated action against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a crucial meeting held in New Delhi. The gathering brought together representatives from 22 opposition parties and Independent MP Kapil Sibal, who discussed electoral issues, economic concerns, unemployment, inflation and the functioning of democratic institutions. The meeting also focused on preparing a common strategy ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament and future electoral contests.
Addressing a joint press conference after the deliberations, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the alliance had unanimously agreed on several key resolutions. Among them was a demand for the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations, including NEET and CBSE-related issues. Kharge also announced that opposition parties would soon write to the Chief Justice of India regarding concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged electoral irregularities. The leaders further sought an all-party meeting to discuss what they described as the country's challenging economic situation.
The opposition parties stressed the importance of safeguarding democratic values and strengthening public engagement in governance. Leaders agreed to hold daily coordination meetings during the Monsoon Session of Parliament and decided to convene alliance meetings every two months to maintain cohesion. The next INDIA bloc meeting is scheduled to take place in Hyderabad in August. Kharge said all participating leaders expressed their views openly, while Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren joined the discussions virtually.

The meeting also witnessed discussions on electoral strategy and the future direction of the opposition alliance. Several leaders emphasized the need to remain united despite differences among constituent parties. According to participants, Rahul Gandhi highlighted concerns regarding the electoral process and reiterated the importance of bringing opposition forces together. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav called on the Congress to support the strongest regional parties in various states, while National Conference leader Omar Abdullah described the Congress as a key force in holding the alliance together ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Another point of discussion was the possibility of engaging with emerging civil society and youth-led movements. The youth-oriented Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was mentioned during the deliberations, with some leaders suggesting broader outreach to new political and social groups. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee also spoke about supporting civil society initiatives, while other participants stressed the need for stronger grassroots engagement to connect with voters and address public concerns more effectively.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of recent electoral setbacks for some opposition parties and growing debates over coordination within the alliance. While key constituents such as the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD, National Conference and Left parties attended, the DMK was absent and the Aam Aadmi Party has already distanced itself from the bloc. Despite these challenges, leaders concluded the meeting by emphasizing collective action on issues affecting citizens and strengthening opposition unity as they prepare for future political battles, including the 2029 general elections.
