The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a generally cloudy day with heavy rainfall at isolated places across Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on Saturday, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert for the three districts. The weather agency has also warned of occasional strong winds ranging between 50 and 60 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 70 kmph. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as intermittent heavy showers are expected through the day.

Several parts of Mumbai, including Borivali, Chembur, Colaba, Mulund, Powai, Santacruz and Worli, are likely to experience cloudy conditions accompanied by spells of heavy rain. According to weather forecasts, daytime temperatures are expected to remain around 31°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to settle near 27°C during the night. Forecasts also indicate the possibility of one or two thunderstorms, with occasional rainfall expected to continue into the evening.

Private weather forecasting platform AccuWeather has also issued a yellow watch for heavy rainfall in Mumbai, predicting mostly cloudy skies, breezy afternoon conditions and intermittent thunderstorms. The combined forecasts suggest that residents may experience periods of reduced visibility, waterlogging in vulnerable locations and traffic disruptions during peak rainfall hours. Authorities have urged commuters to monitor weather updates before travelling and to exercise caution on roads affected by heavy showers.

The weather warning comes as neighbouring Palghar district continues to grapple with the impact of intense rainfall over the past two days. At least three people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, while floodwaters have cut off several villages and forced large-scale evacuations. District authorities described the current flood situation as the most severe experienced in the region in nearly a decade, prompting emergency response teams to remain on high alert.

According to officials, 1,155 people from 284 families across Dahanu, Talasari and Palghar talukas have been relocated to relief shelters or accommodated with relatives as a precautionary measure. Authorities have arranged food, drinking water and medical assistance for those displaced. Rescue teams also evacuated 244 people from waterlogged areas, including residents stranded in Palghar town, workers trapped at a factory in Talasari and individuals rescued from a flooded farmhouse in Gundale.

Heavy rainfall has also caused widespread damage to infrastructure across Palghar district. Officials reported damage to nearly 30 kilometres of roads, 24 cross-drainage structures and causeways, as well as six bridges, with preliminary estimates placing repair costs at around ₹13.55 crore. Several villages in Dahanu, Talasari and Palghar tehsils remain affected by flooding, while authorities continue to monitor river levels, assess damage and carry out relief and restoration work as rainfall persists across the region.
