Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) announced on Thursday that it will introduce two new models from its Chennai manufacturing facility this year, including the company's first mass-market electric vehicle (EV) for the Indian market. The automaker also reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Tamil Nadu into its flagship EV hub in India as it accelerates its electrification strategy.
The company stated that the upcoming mass-market EV is part of its broader effort to expand affordable electric mobility options across the country. Hyundai believes growing consumer demand, supportive government policies, and improvements in charging infrastructure are creating favorable conditions for wider EV adoption in India.
To support this transition, HMIL plans to strengthen its charging network over the next two to three years. The company said it is strategically deploying high-capacity charging stations across major cities and key highway corridors, enabling easier long-distance travel and improving convenience for EV owners. The expansion is expected to enhance accessibility and boost confidence among prospective electric vehicle buyers.

Operations under the program are expected to commence in December 2027.
The announcements underscore Hyundai's growing investment in both sustainable mobility and workforce development in India. With new EV launches, expanding charging infrastructure, and collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government, the company is positioning itself to play a significant role in India's transition toward cleaner transportation and future-ready employment opportunities.
