A sandwich shop inauguration in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, took an unusual turn when a humanoid robot arrived at the event accompanied by armed bodyguards. The robot, brought by Indore-based Bidyut Innovation, quickly became the centre of attraction as guests gathered for the opening ceremony. A video of the event, which took place on Sunday, August 23, shows the robot greeting people and participating in the traditional inauguration rituals.
The humanoid robot was seen shaking hands with guests before entering the venue, where it was welcomed with a cloth placed around its neck. It then joined the puja ceremony, adding a futuristic element to the otherwise traditional event. Vermillion was applied to its forehead during the ceremony, while one guest also offered it a plate of sandwiches from the newly opened shop.
The robot's interactions with the crowd created several amusing moments. At one point, it raised its hand to wave at the gathering, but one man appeared to mistake the gesture for a blessing and bowed before it. The incident drew laughter from people present at the venue and added to the unusual atmosphere surrounding the shop's inauguration.

The biggest surprise came later when the humanoid robot began performing a series of dance moves in front of the guests. Its unexpected performance entertained the crowd and turned what would have been a routine shop opening into a spectacle combining technology, tradition and entertainment.
The video has since attracted attention online, with users expressing both amusement and curiosity over the robot's appearance at a public event. While some enjoyed watching a humanoid robot take part in a traditional Indian ceremony, others used the incident to discuss the expanding presence of robots in everyday activities.
The event also prompted speculation about whether robots could eventually take over roles such as waiters, cooks and restaurant workers. Some users joked that robots were becoming celebrities, while others raised concerns that increasing automation could make humans redundant. The Ujjain inauguration thus became an entertaining glimpse into how robotics is increasingly finding its way into everyday public life.
