Torrential overnight rains battered Uttarakhand, triggering flash floods and landslides that inflicted severe damage across Dehradun and neighboring regions, including Mussoorie. Roads were crippled, houses and shops submerged or destroyed, and a bridge was completely washed away, exacerbating the chaos in the early hours of Tuesday. Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman reported initial assessments indicating significant infrastructure losses, with relief efforts underway to mitigate further risks.

The downpour, which began late Monday, led to at least one verified death in Mussoorie, while two to three individuals remain missing in Dehradun's Sahastradhara and Mal Devta areas. Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and district administration swiftly mobilized, evacuating 300 to 400 residents to safer locations. Suman emphasized that operations are ongoing amid challenging conditions, with authorities urging caution as swollen rivers and unstable slopes pose continued threats.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, actively monitoring the crisis, shared updates via a post on X, expressing grief over the damage to shops in Sahastradhara. "The district administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations," he stated, adding that he is in constant contact with local officials. In a Hindi message, Dhami prayed for the safety of all affected residents, highlighting the government's commitment to rapid response.

Uttarakhand's vulnerability to monsoon-related disasters is well-documented, with the Himalayan state's steep terrain and heavy seasonal rainfall often leading to such calamities.
