A senior Haryana government officer died on Wednesday after allegedly jumping from the sixth floor of the Civil Secretariat building in Chandigarh. The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Ganesh Das Arora, who was serving as a special secretary attached to a senior IAS officer.
Police recovered a suicide note at the scene in which Arora stated that he was “under no pressure from either family or office” and did not hold anyone responsible for his decision. Authorities are, however, investigating all possible angles, including whether the officer faced harassment or work-related stress.
According to police officials, Arora lived in Zirakpur’s Sushma Enclave and was due to retire in October. Reports indicate that he was reportedly distressed over a recent departmental transfer, which may have contributed to his state of mind.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 12.30 pm. Arora is said to have left his desk, walked to the sixth-floor balcony, and jumped before colleagues or security personnel could intervene.
Officials also revealed that this was not Arora’s first attempt at self-harm. Approximately 15 days ago, he allegedly tried to climb onto the roof of the Civil Secretariat building but was stopped by coworkers in time. The suicide note has been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination.
Arora is survived by his wife, who is currently posted at the Haryana Raj Bhavan. The family has not issued any public statement regarding the incident. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
