Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday inaugurated a newly developed electric bus depot in Panipat and flagged off 80 electric buses, marking a significant expansion of the state’s clean public transport infrastructure. The initiative is being positioned as a key step toward reducing urban pollution and modernising the state’s mobility system. Officials said the launch strengthens Haryana’s commitment to green energy adoption in transport. The event was held in Panipat, a city described by the Chief Minister as symbolically important for the rollout.
The Chief Minister said the introduction of electric buses represents the beginning of a “new era” of clean, modern and environment-friendly transport in Haryana. He stressed that the government aims to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel while improving passenger comfort and efficiency in public transport services. Saini linked the initiative to broader national goals of sustainable development and net zero emissions. He added that Haryana is actively working to implement these environmental objectives on the ground.
Out of the 80 electric buses launched, 40 have been allotted to Panipat, 15 to Yamunanagar, 10 each to Kurukshetra and Sonipat, and five to Panchkula. The Chief Minister said this distribution is designed to strengthen city-level transport networks based on demand and population needs. He also noted that these buses are intended to improve last-mile connectivity in urban areas. According to officials, the deployment will be carried out in phases to ensure smooth integration into existing transport systems.

The newly inaugurated electric bus depot in Panipat has been built at an estimated cost of around ₹7 crore. It includes modern charging infrastructure and maintenance facilities designed specifically for electric vehicle operations. The state government said similar depots are under construction in eight other districts across Haryana. These upcoming depots will also be equipped with charging stations to support the expanding electric bus fleet and future mobility requirements.
Saini said strengthening public transport is a top priority for the state government under its long-term urban development strategy. He highlighted that Haryana City Bus Service Ltd is working on improving service efficiency through technology integration. Plans are underway to introduce a tracking system similar to Indian Railways, allowing passengers to monitor bus locations and arrival times via mobile applications. The government also plans to build 10 new electric bus stands within a year and continue expanding the fleet under Haryana Vision 2047.
