A chilling double murder rocked Jharkhand’s Saraikela district early Monday morning when a man brutally killed his wife and five-year-old son with an iron pan in the Kapali OP area of Tamolia village. The accused, Sukhram Munda, was arrested shortly after the blood-soaked crime scene was discovered, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community.
Police reports indicate the killings occurred around 5 AM, triggered by a domestic dispute that spiraled into unimaginable violence. Neighbors recounted hearing heated arguments between Sukhram and his wife, Parvati Devi, followed by her desperate screams and those of their son, Ganesh Munda. Preliminary investigations point to Sukhram’s chronic alcohol abuse as a catalyst, with locals noting frequent quarrels fueled by his addiction. After bludgeoning the pair with the iron pan, Sukhram allegedly used a blade to slit their throats, ensuring their deaths.
A patrolling team stumbled upon the scene after noticing a crowd outside the modest home. Inside, officers found the victims in a pool of blood, alongside a blood-stained iron pan and blade—now key evidence in the case. The bodies were sent for post-mortem at a nearby hospital, while forensic teams combed the site for further clues. Kapali OP in-charge Sonu Kumar confirmed Sukhram’s arrest, stating, “The accused is under interrogation to establish the exact sequence of events.”
The tragedy has left relatives of Parvati Devi demanding swift justice, their grief palpable as they gathered at the scene. Saraikela, part of a region long plagued by socio-economic struggles, now grapples with this stark reminder of domestic violence’s deadly toll. As the investigation unfolds, authorities aim to uncover what pushed Sukhram to such a barbaric act, while the community mourns a mother and child lost to a moment of rage.
