The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare has redressed 2,306 long-pending pension grievances under Special Campaign 3, achieving a resolution rate of 72 per cent. The campaign was conducted from July 7 to August 31 with the objective of ensuring timely and qualitative resolution of pension-related grievances, claims and other pending issues.
The campaign began with a preparatory phase during which ministries and departments identified 1,062 target cases, along with 2,131 cases that had remained pending on the CPENGRAMS portal for more than one month. During the execution phase, the department coordinated with concerned ministries and departments and conducted two mid-campaign review meetings to track progress and regularly monitor pending cases.
The initiative also focused on improving access to grievance-redressal mechanisms for pensioners and family pensioners in rural areas. According to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, a majority of the resolved cases involved beneficiaries residing in rural regions. The department highlighted the use of CPENGRAMS and other online portals operated by ministries and departments as an important factor in extending digital grievance-redressal services to these beneficiaries.

The department is continuing follow-up efforts for grievances that remain unresolved. The campaign was designed not only to reduce pendency but also to improve coordination between government departments handling pension-related matters. The ministry indicated that the demographic distribution of the resolved cases reflected the increasing use of online mechanisms by pensioners and family pensioners outside major urban centres.
Among the cases highlighted by the ministry was the release of Rs 16.70 lakh in family pension arrears to Jayalakshmi Karnan, the disabled dependent daughter of a Defence pensioner. The arrears were released with effect from June 2013. Another case involved the settlement of Rs 30 lakh in disability pension arrears in favour of Defence pensioner Idan Singh, effective from September 16, 2016.
The department described the campaign as part of its efforts to address long-pending pension grievances through focused monitoring and coordination. The redressal of thousands of cases, particularly those involving beneficiaries in rural areas, reflects the role of digital platforms such as CPENGRAMS in facilitating access to government grievance mechanisms. Further follow-up will continue for the cases that remain pending.
